There are a lot of things that require time to do, one is children’s education. The curious minds of children need special time dedicated to them so that no one will misinform them. Sadly, in most of our communities, we are taught to portray ‘hard love’. Allowing children to be themselves is termed as pampering while vocal children are seen as disrespectful. This stage of their lives cannot be joked with, instead of making them feel of no importance, this is the time to shape their mindsets towards a great future.
We often say the development of a child lies with the community. If parents do not have time to engage their children on safety tips and decision making, Starlight Foundation is here to take up this role. With Teach Them Young, pupils have the chance to teach decision making and career lessons tools. These interactive sections deliver talks that bother Streetism, personal hygiene, fire and safety rules including career choices.
This year, Starlight and Adamfo Ghana are reaching out to more schools and communities than we’ve ever done in the previous years. Street children are not only a result of poor homes, some of these children have been to school and were drawn to the street by their peers. Since the minds of children can be easily manipulated in a certain direction, then our focus is to get our children on the right path so they do not end up with the wrong crowd.
We are grateful to the school authorities of Amenuveve Children’s School in Ehi of the Volta Region of Ghana. We all have a role to play in ensuring that our children are not swayed into bad company and subsequently end up on the street.
We are coming to your school and locality. Every Ghanaian child has the right to be in school, thus whatever will prevent such instances from occurring is what we seek to avoid. The street is not a place for any child, their place is a safe place where they can learn and be a better version of themselves.
Together, we will intentionally groom safety-conscious children for our society.
