Gone are the days when a child was for everyone to look after. Parents could go for days unafraid of what is happening with their children because there were people at home to cater for their children. Community members were strict in discipline and ensured that no child was lost in their upbringing. Sadly, such gestures are gradually fading away, even parents have slacked on their discipline and allowed their children to be whatever they want. This is why we want to create a safe place for them. This consists of a good place to sleep and eat and most importantly, a place they can feel at home.
For a street-connected child, home may not be necessary to be with their family. Our society structure allows every child to be cared for and protected by all. Small love gestures like these will give children the assurance that the home is the best place to be. For our children in school and in the community, Starlight Foundation wants to instil in them the ability to voice out their concerns and seek help when they need to. Whiles we do this, we want community members to embrace these children and show the willingness to help them become helpful adults.
We thank the school authorities of Grace Gold School for the opportunity to interact with their children. Home is everywhere, whether at school or back home. Wherever our children find themselves, home is with us and we will ensure that they constantly feel as such.
