The greater part of every girl’s life is spent dealing with her menstrual cycle however few get to practice menstrual health. Specially-abled ladies have a special case when we talk about menstruation. For them, they need extra assistance not only with a constant supply of sanitary pads but with how to detect their periods and how to properly keep themselves in that state.
For girls on the street, the situation is worse. Already, these girls live in unhygienic places with little to no water for their daily use. A sanitary pad is a secondary burden, to get food to eat is the most important and thus they pay less attention to menstrual hygiene.
This Friday as we celebrate international menstrual hygiene day, the ladies of Accra Rehabilitation Centre, Accra Psychiatric Hospital and the street-connected girls will have access to both disposable and reusable sanitary pads.
Together, no girl will be left behind because of her period, this time around we will prioritize for every girl to have a safe period.
