From the very first time of her menstrual cycle, an average girl spends about 10 years of her life menstruating. Even with experienced ladies who have used sanitary pads for a long time, there are days within their periods when they experience stains of blood from constant movements and activities.
The picture is then clear on girls who have less to zero access to sanitary products. If periods stain then it’s not only about having a pad, it’s also about having constant clean clothes and areas to clean themselves when necessary.
In most remote areas, access to water is not an everyday thing. This is why we advise that reusable pads be used only when there’s the availability of water. With a combination of disposal pads, these girls do not have to worry about seasons or the shame of a stain from wearing a sanitary pad for a long time. With this idea we’ve spread all these years, we cannot wait to meet the pupils of Mamfe Presbyterian JHS on March 10, 2023.
There’s no shame in having a period but the circumstances faced by these girls have oriented their minds in different ways.
We are championing this course all the time and thus we must note that within every month, the girl child must go through a cycle that cannot be altered. If so then a girl child must find themselves in our budget every month. Especially those disabled, street-connected children and every other girl around us.
