Dwene me ho, na boa me – Neglecting the old wound would not cure the new
Times are hard, when you think about your problems you don’t seem to arrive at a solution how then add up another’s burden. If not for anything, COVID-19 has taught us to neglect each other for you do not know who is a potential transmitter. The same virus has taught us to be on the lookout for the aged especially since most of them suffer from a weak immune system and might be prone to the virus. Everybody is concerned about the virus and how to avoid getting it near them and their families.
As humans as we are, we tend to forget our old sores when a new one pops up. Before the onset of COVID-19, we were battling other diseases such as malaria, hypertension, diabetes, and others. Suddenly these diseases have disappeared from our minds yet they have been on a rise since all of our attention has been directed to the novel virus. It’s not news to us that some parents and family members do not take their aged and children to the hospital for the fear of bringing home the virus. So, our children and aged lie at home sick from disease associated with lifestyle and they cannot come to reason to visit the hospital.
This is our focus this year as Starlight Foundation, we have the plights of the aged and our children at heart. We want to address the things that have been with us right from the beginning and have been putting these categories of people at risk. We are sending health care to their doorstep, all aged and children who for fear of another virus have been suppressing the pain of other diseases. The faster we move would help us save the life of a child or the aged who is gradually drifting away by a disease he or she can address.
We also want to take this opportunity to announce to the public that coughing, sneezing, and feeling feverish was part of us and meant different things to different people before COVID-19 was discovered. Let’s put a stop to the stigmatization of people who may be showing such symptoms. It’s up to us to find out what the exact issue is rather than associating it with a common disease. With this, more of the aged and children are dying from communicable and non-communicable diseases due to our negligence.
Starlight Foundation and Agnes-Love Memorial Foundation appeals to you to support this course of sending health care to the aged and children stuck at home and possibly in their worst condition due to fear and lack of funds to support their health care issues. Our children are our future and the aged are the testimony of how the future would be.
Neglecting their plights would not send the virus off but rather make them even more prone to it. Let’s save our own and know that swift attention must be given to things that existed and putting us at risk of what is to come.
Dwene me ho, na boa me, think about me and render a helping hand. This is how we would not get defeated by anything when we join hands together on this course.
