Street-connected children are the heartbeat of the Starlight Foundation. That is why we give in our all when it comes to their representation. Whiles we talk, we believe the process is gradual and so while we wait for a change we also need to be the change. What have we been seeking for all this while? That we grant them access to live a life of a child devoid of unscrupulous lifestyle and behaviors. The main reason why most of them are on the street is to feed their stomachs and build networks of the same purpose. If so then our annual Let’s Feed the Street Together comes to mind. The reason we keep soliciting your help is not only to provide them with a daily meal. If that’s is the main motive then we might as well retreat because they’ve been feeding themselves all year round. We’re trying to build a network that poses a positive impact on their lives. The kind of people they’re exposed to every day might not be healthy for their upkeep and well-being, and so while we share our gifts with them we want to establish that we’re not coming to dump food and gifts on them and walk away. Every random person can do that, we want to establish a long-term relationship of trust and awareness. We’re saying to them that this place they live in is not the safest and the commitment to their representation is valid.
There are places people haven’t been before but their impact has been felt. You might not necessarily want to be on the grounds but your support leads us to our destination. When we mention our heroes, we add you to it because your impact has been made miles away. This year’s event will be possible if you help us feed over 1000 street-connected children on the streets of Accra. It can be anybody’s child, the trend of poverty-stricken children on the street has changed. There are children from good homes ending on the street due to friends and peer pressure. Some families have lost their children to the street due to abuse and violence. This is why this conversation must not only dwell on the sharing of food. It goes on to address the things we ignore that turn back to hit us unpleasantly.
