“Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans” (Jacques Cousteau).
The sea apart from feeding us with many proteins has become a place of comfort for many. It has somehow become an inexpensive way of relaxation. You can walk to a beach and allow yourself to drown in its beauty and scenery. The beach has brought peace to many, and since most of our beaches are open to the public, we tend to abuse the beautiful surroundings of it. There’s lack of management on our beach has paved way for it to be a site of littering and open defecation. These things were done by none other than us, the perception that the sea is very wide to accommodate everything has led to a spark in sea levels and our fishermen having nothing to bring home.
The sight on our beaches is nothing pleasant, it is our responsibility to keep our natural resources safe. They’re not inventions that go and come so that we can rely on what is to come. Most of the harm has been caused already but we can start addressing it one by one like joining Starlight Foundation on March 7, 2022, to clean up the Art Center Beach in Accra. With the help of BD-Waste Recycling Service, we are clearing our beaches of all impurities that have been choked in them. Aside from that, we’re reminding you that the things you throw into the sea do not need to end up there, there are proper ways to dispose of them as these cans and rubbers can be recycled into useful materials.
This falls under Our Sanitation, Our Health initiatives. Many unhealthy practices on our beach need to stop so that we save the inhabitants of the sea as well as its surroundings. We are counting on your support to make this happen so that together, we can preserve what nature has given to us.
