Life as a child is an interesting period. As an adult, we can recall and laugh at the things we used to believe and hold in high esteem that does not hold any value in our lives. That’s how every child is, theirs is to be listeners of numerous talks around them. They do not have the sense to distinguish between facts and deceit. They need directions that represent the adulthood we wish for them. If at this point some adults still believe all their childhood stories, then we can envision how great the minds of our children would be if we dedicate time to teaching them the right things.
Aside from the number of children on the street, there has been an increase in children who move out of home onto the street. The cause of this move is numerous but primarily, we can say that the fault lies on all of us. The signs that our children give us in respect to their daily interactions are often overlooked. How many parents can boost one-on-one conversations with their children? It’s either the child talks too much or is not worthy of their parent’s time.
Starlight Foundation has made time to visit children in schools and communities with only one motive; to get our children into the right mindset so that they can be bold in their decisions and choices. Amazingly these children have a lot to ask about things they encounter every day but most of us are busy with things we deem important. If a child should end up on the street, or in a fire or road accident, the first to be blamed is the parent. Whiles, it might be so, these occurrences affect everyone and we might not find a replacement in our national leaders if we leave these mistakes unattended.
In other parts of the world, parents pay specifically for their children to undergo counselling and training that can help protect them without any adult supervision. In this part of our world, some parents do not find this act necessary until it gets to a worse state. This is why we are thankful to the school authorities at Jesus Grammar International School in Dawhenya for allowing us to speak to their pupils on fire and road safety as well as the need for them to stay focused in school. Adamfo Ghana made it possible for these pupils to receive exercise books, mathematical sets, pens and hand sanitizers.
Let’s prioritize the safety and health of our children, it’s not all cases that money can solve. Sometimes, these children just need a safe word and a safe place to be themselves.
