With all the schools and communities that Starlight Foundation has been to with our Teach Them Young Initiative, there is one thing that runs through all of them: a gathering of people who do not know anything to be done in case of emergency and in cases where their life in the classroom is threatened. What a child needs to do when encountered with fire or the road and even when in the midst of a bad peer group is absent in our schools. The academic calendar does not give time for such lessons but they are what these children encounter daily.
To be given a full-time section with the pupils of Touching Lives Educational Complex by their school authorities is an act we will be forever grateful for. Our classrooms will be empty if these children do not see the essence of being in the classroom. Clearly, we cannot solve all the individual problems that bother these children but their minds can be turned into a place where outside influence cannot corrupt them. Haven’t we seen children who will not do anything outside what their teachers and parent tell them? This is because you can make a child into whatever you want them to be. At this stage where their minds absorb information the way it is with no clear distinction between good or bad, we want to key in ideas that will make their surroundings and interactions a peaceful one.
In turn, these children become ambassadors of Streetism at home and in school. Bad influence is everywhere and Teach Them Young will ensure that our children can be able to say no when they are drawn into an unsafe place.
