“… I found that apart from the lack of education, what stopped girls from menstrual management was a limited access to sanitary pads.” — Manushi Chhillar
Menstrual products such as sanitary pads and tissues should have been the least worry for every girl. Today it costs a fortune to own a sanitary pad, and some girls are returning to unhygienic menstrual practices because they cannot afford a sanitary pad. Starlight Foundation and Adamfo Ghana are urging all of us to make periods safe for our girls. A special gift as a sanitary pad gifted to a girl will ensure that girls remain focused and neat even during their periods.
For our specially-abled girls, the story is sadder. On their periods, they have to rely on the help of people in order to practice good menstrual hygiene. Not being able to have access to sanitary products is a disaster for health.
The ladies of Accra Psychiatric Hospital can now access both disposable and reusable sanitary pads. This is the best news for every girl and a call on us all that to gift a girl a sanitary pad is to make their periods safer.
Our thanksgiving goes to the authorities of Accra Psychiatric Hospital for their involvement in making sure that these ladies have good menstrual health even in their current situation.
Together, we can end period stigma and empower all girls to realize their full potential.
