For the past years, the World Menstrual Hygiene Day movement has called for action and investment in menstrual health and hygiene using the hashtag #ItsTimeForAction. Starlight Foundation, through its, Let Her Know project has ensured that girls in remote areas, especially the disabled do not lack essential needs for their periods as well as comprehensive teachings on menstrual hygiene throughout the year.
We have seen over the years with the introduction of reusable and disposable sanitary pads that more girls have stayed in school, there’s no shame in being on their periods and their focus has shifted to an essential aspect of their lives; their education. Though our impact has increased over the years, there are still many girls we seek to interact with. This is why our first school this year Kpong Quarters RC Basic School excites us very much.
Our bigger motive is to leave no girl behind. This year, our focus would not only rally with World Menstrual Hygiene Day but also bring more community involvement within our execution. This is because in as much as our girls strive to be in school, some of these barriers such as lack of menstrual hygiene products pose as one of the major factors for their absence in school.
Together with Adamfo Ghana and Wings of Support, be sure to expect us in your schools, homes, on the street and on every corner our girls have gone to hide in their quest to cover their shame of not having menstrual products. No girl will be left behind because of her period, this time around we will prioritize for every girl to have a safe period.
