Who We Are

Starlight Foundation is a registered Ghanaian community-based nonprofit organisation dedicated to empowering street-connected children by creating an enabling environment for their enhanced life and promising future. Our all-inclusive approach addresses their immediate needs while generating opportunities for long-term well-being and self-sufficiency.

Our key initiatives include providing access to quality education through strategic partnerships, offering vocational training for age-appropriate candidates, and conducting public education campaigns to raise awareness about the challenges of streetism in Ghana. Driven by a team of dedicated professionals, we work collaboratively to create lasting positive change in our communities, focusing on sustainable solutions that promote individual growth and community development.

Our Approach

Early Intervention

At Starlight Foundation, we firmly believe that preventing children from entering street life is more effective than rehabilitation. Through our early intervention initiatives, we actively engage with children who are at risk but not yet on the streets. We work closely with local schools and communities to identify vulnerable children and provide them with the support they need to stay in school and away from street life. Our dedicated team conducts regular outreach programmes in vulnerable communities, offering preventive counselling and organising awareness sessions about the dangers of street life. We also support struggling families with resources and guidance, recognising that family stability plays a crucial role in preventing streetism. By implementing early warning systems and maintaining close relationships with schools, we can identify and assist children showing signs of disconnecting from their education or family support systems before they turn to the streets.

Empowerment Through Education

Empowerment through Education forms another cornerstone of our approach. We believe education is the light that eliminates the darkness of poverty and unlocks human potential. Our programmes remove barriers and create access to quality learning for street-connected youth. This includes scholarships, school supplies, daily meals, and transportation. By empowering children through education, we pave pathways out of streetism and create lasting change in their lives. Our educational support extends beyond basic schooling to ensure that each child has the tools and resources they need to succeed academically and build a brighter future.

All Inclusive Care

We take a whole-child approach in caring for street-connected children, providing healthcare access, life skills training, counselling, nutrition, and meeting other basic needs. By addressing the full context of each child's life, we can nurture their development physically, emotionally, and mentally. This comprehensive care approach ensures that children receive the support they need to overcome challenges and develop into healthy, well-adjusted individuals. Our holistic programmes are designed to create a stable foundation from which children can grow and thrive.

Community Collaboration

Our belief in the African proverb "It takes a village to raise a child." We collaborate closely with families, community leaders, partners, and other stakeholders to create a web of support around youth. These partnerships are essential in providing mentorship, instilling values, raising awareness, and giving children the nurturing environments they deserve. Through united efforts with community members, local organizations, and government agencies, we work to create systemic change that benefits not just individual children, but entire communities. This collaborative approach ensures the sustainability of our interventions and helps create lasting positive change in the lives of street-connected children.
